Sustainability Objective Four

To reduce, and eventually eliminate Whistler's contribution to undermining the ability of other people to meet their needs.

Because fair and efficient use of resources is necessary to achieve social stability and cooperation toward the first three Sustainability Objectives, this objective suggests that society needs to enable  all people to meet their needs of subsistence, protection, affection, understanding, identity, creation, participation, leisure and freedom.

Generally this means:

  • using all of our natural resources efficiently, fairly and responsibly so that the needs of all people on whom we impact, now and in the future, stand the greatest chance of being met
  • promoting solutions to meeting basic human needs for all (subsistence, understanding, leisure, identity, affection, participation, freedom, creation and protection)
  • building social systems and communities that are self-organizing, diverse and interdependent
